Intensive English Program (IEP)
Description of Program: The Intensive English Program specializes in providing English language instruction for students who wish to attend an American university or college for their undergraduate and graduate studies. The ALA Intensive English Program graduation certificate assures that the student possesses the English language skills necessary to succeed at the university level.
Duration per Level: 9 weeks/1.5 hours per week
Program Completion Requirements: Completion of Level 5
Total number of units in the IEP: 7 levels (units)
Scheduled Completion Date: 12-24 months from the start of the program
English for Academic Purposes Program (EAP)
Description of Program: The English for Academic Purposes Program is the equivalent of Learn English Live (IEP) given over a longer period of time. The EAP specializes in providing English language instruction for students who wish to attend an American university or college for their undergraduate and graduate studies. TheLearn English Live English for Academic Purposes Program graduation certificate assures that the student possesses the English language skills necessary to succeed at the university level.
Duration per Level: 27 weeks (9 weeks per level section) 1.5 hours per week
Program Completion Requirements: Completion of Level 5C
Total number of units in the EAP: 18 levels (units)
Scheduled Completion Date: 24-36 months from the start of the program
General English Program (GEP)
Description of Program: The General English Program is designed for English learners who need to use English to interact with English speakers on an everyday basis, whether they live in the United States or in other countries. The program instructs students in English grammar, English conversation, listening and speaking skills for daily life, and reading and writing skills for social and employment purposes.
Duration per Level: 9 weeks/1.5 hours per week
Program Completion Requirements: Completion of Advanced General English Level
Total number of units in the GEP: 7 levels (units)
Scheduled Completion Date: 12-14 months from the start of the program
IELTS Test Preparation Course
Description of Program: The online IELTS preparation course helps students improve their ability to combine listening, speaking, writing and/or reading skills to accomplish academic tasks, a major focus of the IELTS exam. Pre- and post-tests inform students of their strong and weak skills to help then focus their studying. Students do practice tests and receive coaching in critical test-taking strategies to improve their performance on the exam.
Duration per Course: 9 weeks/1.5 hours per week

TOEFL Test Preparation Course
Description of Program: The online TOEFL preparation course helps students improve their ability to combine listening, speaking, writing and/or reading skills to accomplish academic tasks, a major focus of the TOEFL exam. Students do practice tests and receive coaching in critical test-taking strategies to improve their performance on the exam.

Programs & Courses Method of Instruction
Online synchronous learning, online interaction, submission of assignments, reading of text books and materials.
Equipment to be Provided by School
Software required for online classrooms, live online video broadcasts, discussion forums, and secure electronic logins to ALA’s student email, ALA’s learning management system (LMS) and student account, on ALA’s student information system (SIS).
Technology Requirement
Wired reliable internet connection (dial-up or wireless are not considered a reliable connection), computer cannot be more than 3 years old (desktop computer is recommended), SD Webcam, full headset with microphone and earphone (ear buds are not recommended), must use Internet Explorer or Chrome during classes.
Textbook Costs
Textbook costs are not included in the quoted tuition. Students have the option to buy textbooks through Learn English Live or a vendor of choice. Textbook sales are final through Learn English Live after the first week of session. Students will not be allowed to return books or be refunded after the first week of session. If a student buys textbooks through Learn English Live , he/she assumes the cost of mailing charges and return mailing costs.
